Want Some Expert Tips About Writing? Take Notes from Steven Nickodemski

Lucky are those who grow up with a passion. And it is that urge which drives them to do better, all the while breaking all boundaries, and creating something that the world sees. No matter who you are or where in the world you are from, it’s your passion that pushes you to get through the toughest times; because you know that at the end of the day, it’s all worth it. Whether it is climbing the mountains in the coldest weather or simply writing about it, there are no boundaries when it comes to passion. Millions of young people grow up enthusiastic about writing, their words become their ultimate companions, allowing them to share what they feel in a world that is simply too chaotic and overwhelming.

Always a little hesitant to express himself verbally but often too good with words was none other than Steven Nickodemski. Born in Meriden, Connecticut, Steven moved to Florida at the age of 11. When he turned 17, he enlisted in the US Navy, where he served 23 years. But do you know what truly drove Steven all these years? It was his passion for writing. Coming from a broken home, where he witnessed his suicidal mother and alcoholic father, Steven always had too much inside him that he wanted to express. He ultimately decided to do this after his father passed away, and that was to write a memoir titled “The Marginalized Passenger”. This was the beginning of his incredible writing journey. Since then, Steven has indulged himself in thriller stories while also helping young people pursue their dream of becoming successful writers.

Even though every person’s journey to discovering the writer within them is different, Steven realizes that there are a few tips that everyone can follow to get ideas flowing and connect with their audience better. Here are some of them:

  • Write For Yourself Before You Write For Others

Let’s be honest, if something does not resonate with you, you will never enjoy writing it. Before you write for the rest of the world, you need to write something for yourself, even if that means you have to risk the rest of the world not liking it. Steven, himself, did exactly that. He wrote the memoir because he had to do it. His soul needed him to write it, and fortunately, the world appreciated it too!

  • Find Role Models

It’s just easier to write when you are inspired by countless amazing writers out there. Start by picking out authors with a strong voice and study particular passages to see what makes their work predominantly effective. Your role models don’t always have to be writers; they can be people from your personal life, too – people that inspire you and have left their mark on people’s minds. For Steven Nickodemski, it was his mother. “My mother died of breast cancer when I was only 22 years old; however, she made a massive impact on my life at an early age,” he explained. “Her determination and drive, coupled with the amount of psychological and physical abuse she was able to stand while still finding it possible to make something of herself, makes her a robust female role model for me,” Steven added.

  • Don’t Do What Everyone Else Is Doing

There comes a point when you are intrigued to do what everyone else is doing for the sake of fame and money. But doing something unique is what sets you apart from the rest. Either you succumb to it and write what everyone else is writing, or you create own path and be different. The latter won’t always be easy, but it’s certainly rewarding.

  • Draw Stories From Your Experiences In Life

Talking about deriving inspiration, Steven Nickodemski shared, “Many of the characters and plots in my books are from previous life events. Of course, they are exaggerated and moulded into what I need them to be; however, there is part of me in every book I write.” Believe it or not, your life has some of the most interesting and intriguing stories, only if you look closely. Today, Steven Nickodemski is doing what he has always been passionate about. Apart from his memoir, he has also been busy writing his psychological thriller and wants to continue writing in that genre. He believes that even though it might be difficult to get published, it’s not impossible. So if you want to be a writer, go ahead and tell the world your story!
