When I completed my grad program, I lived in Saint Paul, Minnesota where I spent most of quarantine during spring 2020. That summer changed everything for me. After George Floyd had spread across the country, I saw the city I loved burn down and create absolute chaos that grasped national attention. It was that summer I realized as an African-American woman that my ambitions may get limited where I was, and to make my dreams possible, I needed to make some changes.
After recording every day of protests and riots with my personal equipment, I learned the value in content and footage to spread the true experiences to others across the world. As a digital creator, I wanted to create content as a full-time job but hadn’t figured out how to combine that with my academia persona because it is not very common at my age.
There is not a place to talk about becoming the best creator without interest to completely ditch my professional career that I grew to love so deeply. That was when I realized that’s what I needed to do—create a company to support individuals and businesses develop beyond the sale, and position them for success. The network I have grown and professionals I have engaged with, offer plenty of resources many are unaware exist that help me build out my ideas, and fund an effective project idea- – whatever that project type may be.
Ultimately, SCP aims to provide those opportunities to those who want them most and may not have the tools to support them. It was a humbling experience to graduate with a master’s degree to quickly realize how lucky I was to have that opportunity, and how many others do not. That is what inspired me to lead my change with positivity.
A combination of these life experiences created, “Sackey Companies & Partners”, with a goal to bridge the gap between specialized talent for project work, and business development.
